Wiring Two Outlets
This is appropriate for standard duplex receptacles but should not be used for gfci receptacles.
Wiring two outlets. Today we re wiring up a double duplex outlet. The white neutral wire is splice to each outlet so they share the return path. The black and red wires are both hot and each is connected to one of the receptacles. Have a new video on a channel.
Three wire cable runs into the box. You ve never heard anyone complain about having too many outlets in a shop office kitchen or other work space. You create a pigtail by twisting together multiple wires of the same color it s very important that they re the same color and adding a short length of spare wire of that color. Another approach to outlet wiring is to create pigtails.
This essentially splits the electrical path providing power to the outlet you re wiring and those downstream at the same time. Twist clockwise using pliers then screw a wire cap onto the connection. This keeps each duplex receptacle connected directly to the gfci. Gfci s must have dedicated neutral connections to work.
The line terminals on the gfci are connected to the circuit source and the load terminals are connected to each following outlet with a pigtail splice. Two wire cable runs from the gfci to all the following outlets. Wiring dual outlets from 240v source for 120v in this wiring the first and 3rd outlet hot terminals are connected to the line 2 blue and the second and last outlets hot terminals are connected to the line 1 red. In this diagram two outlets are wired in the same box with a separate 120 volt source feeding each.
The neutral is connected from the main breaker to all outlets neutral terminal. Don t folow this instructions made some mistakes in a video. Wiring 2 outlets with 2 sources.
